Antisemitism and Jew hatred is unacceptable.  Jewish communities are under attack.  Again.  As Jews, we continue to watch virulent Antisemitic verbal attacks, online harassment, vandalism, and violence take place in the United States and around the world.  We experience a downplaying of our fears far too often.  Still.

With increased inflation this past year, most lawyers and law firms likely are experiencing higher costs in operating their law practices.  As with all businesses, you might be considering whether to pass increased costs on to your clients through higher hourly fees.  Although you generally may set your fees at what the market will bear, below are some ethical considerations to keep in mind.  References below to rules will be to the California Rules of Professional Conduct.

Thank you to everyone who attended CFJ's first Community Impact reception and award ceremony on October 20. It was a beautiful evening in downtown L.A. recognizing some of 2022’s CFJ outstanding volunteers.

You represent the buyer in negotiating the sale of a business; six months later, the seller sues your client for fraud relating to the contract. You engage in lengthy negotiations with your client’s employer in an attempt to acquire reasonable accommodations for your client & prevent your client from being terminated; your client is nonetheless terminated and seeks to sue the former employer.

Dear Members and Friends of LACBA: Among the questions Los Angeles County voters will be asked to answer on November 8 are whether four sitting justices of the California Supreme Court, including Chief Justice designate Patricia Guerrero, and twelve sitting justices of the Second District Court of Appeal should be retained in office for another twelve-year term.

In a notorious recent case, a lawyer carelessly bragged about his trial victory, and saw it taken away by the Superior Court. Enrique Garcia Sanchez died following a botched medical procedure.  His daughters and estate sued the hospital and attending gastroenterologist Dr. Essam Quraishi for medical malpractice, alleging the doctor had pierced his patient’s colon with a feeding tube.
