VOLUNTEERING:
- Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA): Volunteers are needed to assist survivors of the 2025 L.A .Wildfires with affirmative claims on behalf of tenants. More than 5 months after the fires, many tenants are still unable to return to their rental unit because their home has not been remediated. Tenants are seeking assistance with demand letters for remediation, return of their security deposit, and rent. If you are interested in volunteering, contact NLSLA director of pro bono, Skip Koenig at skipkoenig@nlsla.org. Volunteers are to provide assistance and advice at in-person FEMA Appeals clinics. The Clinics are held at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena twice a month, on Thursdays from Noon to 2:00 p.m. See the FEMA training video linked here. - The Neighbors of Altadena Support Coalition is looking for volunteers for their Saturday clinics at the St. Bede Parish Center in La Canada from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.. To indicate your interest in volunteering, please contact Moira Hummel.
- The Family Law Section of LACBA is looking for family law lawyer volunteers for its Virtual Settlement Officer (VSO) Program to conduct up to three hours of no-cost mediation for persons impacted by the fires regarding family law related issues. The Harriett Buhai Center can provide family law legal services for low-income residents of Los Angeles County who are victims of the ongoing wildfires. Harriett Buhai focuses on issues related to child custody, parentage, domestic violence, restraining orders, and housing displacement. Their team anticipates a rise in incidents of domestic violence due to the ongoing crisis and is prepared to offer both immediate legal aid and long-term support.
