LACBA has named Coco Su Director for SmartLaw, the association's Lawyer Referral Service. Su has served as SmartLaw’s Interim Director for the past three months.

LACBA congratulates attorney Edith R. Matthai, the recipient of the Litigation Section’s 2024 Jim Robie Professionalism and Civility Award. Matthai was presented with the award at the May 9 Bench Meets the Bar Luncheon hosted by the Litigation Section.

LACBA Counsel for Justice seeks attorneys to volunteer with our Eviction Response Clinic, which assists tenants across Los Angeles County to complete an Answer in the Unlawful Detainer case their landlord has filed against them.

With our training and supervision, you will help Angelenos identify potential defenses and assert their right to stay in their home. This clinic assists litigants through virtual meetings, so volunteers can participate remotely. Clinics are held weekly on Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, and Friday mornings.

While we have flexible scheduling, we do ask for consistent participation from our pro bono team to ensure we are adequately staffed. The Eviction Response Clinic offers impactful, limited-scope legal assistance, with opportunities for full-scope UD representation if volunteers are interested.

The Litigation Section hosted the 2024 Bench Meets the Bar Luncheon on May 9. The popular event brought together Los Angeles civil lawyers and judicial officers and acknowledged the section’s 2024 award winners.

LACBA Officers and Board of Trustees have been elected for the 2024-2025 bar year. The new terms, including that of incoming President Sarvenaz Bahar, commence July 1 with the association's Installation and Awards Dinner taking place on June 27.

LACBA’s 2024 AAPI honorees are Cherisse Cleofe, Nina L. Hong, Upinder Kalra, Kwi Lee, Elaine Lu, Ricardo Ocampo, Alice Chen Smith, and Wendy Wu. Their bios are available now and each will be featured on social media during May.

Helen I. Bendix , Ron Brot, Jessica Kronstadt, and Jim Rosen have been named as LACBA’s Jewish American Heritage Month honorees. Read their bios and follow along on social media this month as we profile each.
