Affiliate Bar Association

Benefits of Affiliation

Apply to become a LACBA Affiliate here

  1. Discounted LACBA Membership. Members of Affiliate Associations receive a $25 discount on their annual LACBA membership fee. Members must identify their affiliate relationship at the time they first join LACBA and each time they renew their membership to receive the discount.

  2. Participation in LACBA Governance. Affiliate Associations have an opportunity to have a coveted two-year term on LACBA’s Board of Trustees. Every year, three trustees are selected by the nominating committee from the Affiliated Associations to serve on the LACBA Board. Eligibility requirements apply.

  3. Co-Sponsorship of Events. Affiliate Associations have an opportunity to co-sponsor events with LACBA and promote these events through LACBA’s expansive member network. LACBA will give Affiliate Associations priority over other organizations in such opportunities.

  4. Listing on E-Hub. Affiliate Associations are listed on the E-Hub on LACBA’s website, along with a link to their websites. This serves to introduce and/or promote Affiliate Associations.

  5. Use of LACBA facilities. Affiliate Associations may request to use LACBA facilities to host events and meetings. The Executive Director/CEO of LACBA has sole discretionary authority to approve or deny any such request. Any approval would be contingent on availability of the facility and the Association’s payment of any costs associated with its usage, as well as a $500 administrative services fee to manage the program at LACBA facilities.

  6. Publication in Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine (LAL). LAL will dedicate a column to issues of interest to Affiliate Associations. Associations may submit articles to the Editorial Board for publication in this column. Any publication is subject to the approval of the Editorial Board and compliance with LAL’s style guidelines and format requirements.

  7. Representation on certain LACBA Task Forces/Committees. Affiliate Organizations may request to have one of their members who is also a member of LACBA serve as their representative on the following task forces/committees, which address issues affecting the legal community at large: (1) Access to Justice, (2) Adequate State Court Funding and Operations, (3) Amicus Briefs, (4) Armed Forces, (5) LACBA Delegation to the Conference of Delegates, (6) Racial and Social Justice; (7) Lawyer Referral Service Advisory, and (8) Los Angeles Lawyer Editorial Board. When making a request, the Affiliate Organization should explain the reason it seeks to participate in the task force/committee and the contributions it can make to the work of the task force/committee. The Executive Director/CEO of LACBA has sole discretionary authority to approve or deny such a request.

  8. Invitation to Annual LACBA Get Together for Affiliate Bar Organizations. LACBA will often host an annual social/networking event and leadership retreat for its Affiliate Associations. This is a unique opportunity to meet representatives of other affiliates and LACBA.

  9. Feature in LACBA Update. LACBA will feature an Affiliate Association in its popular monthly electronic newsletter “LACBA Update” which is sent to over 15,000 recipients.
