Program Description:
Do you know that if a client and an attorney have a fee dispute, there is a mandatory program the parties can use to resolve their issues without need for litigation? The program is inexpensive, it is expeditious, and it allows for the parties to resolve their disputes through mediation and/or arbitration through the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Attorney-Client Mediation and Arbitration program (“ACMAS”). However, in order to provide the ability for parties to resolve their fee disputes, ACMAS needs YOU.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity where you can make a real positive difference in the lives of clients and their former attorneys, join ACMAS as an arbitrator.
Through a 3-hour training, ACMAS will train you on the law on attorney-client fee disputes. In exchange, you will receive MCLE credit and ACMAS will receive you as a panel member in its program.
The commitment to arbitrate a case is fluid and flexible. If you are asked to serve and cannot do so at the time, you are free to decline.
While ACMAS always could use new arbitrators, we stress the need for criminal and family law attorneys, or lay arbitrators, as those qualifications are always in short supply.
Step up and see the possibilities of service in our program.
This virtual training will cover the following topics: recent developments in fee arbitration, writing enforceable awards, statute of limitations, effect of conflicts of interest, arbitrator disclosure requirements, and controlling the proceeding.
