Practical Tax Aspects of the Altadena and Pacific Palisades Fires

This program will address the federal income tax consequences of the recent Palisades and Altadena fires. This session will cover the most common tax issues facing fire victims in a clear and accessible way. Topics will include tax treatment of destroyed real property, with and without insurance reimbursement; personal property losses, reimbursed and unreimbursed; environmental remediation and cleanup costs; living expenses such as meals and lodging; diminution in real property value due to fire damage; and sales of residential and rental property following destruction. Although this program is designed for attorneys, it will also be of interest to CPAs, and is co-sponsored by the California Society of CPAs. The general public is also welcome to attend.
