Judge Burdge, an active LACBA member since 1979, received his law degree from UCLA in 1979, starting his legal career with Lillick McHose & Charles, and in 1986 joined Dewey Ballantine LLP, where he met his wife, Justice Lee Smalley Edmon.

Hardly a day passes without a publication in the trade press on the burgeoning use of artificial intelligence in the legal profession. As the use of AI becomes commonplace in the legal industry it raises ethical concerns. Will there be regulation coming down the pike regarding the ethical use of AI technologies? To some extent, it already exists.
Incivility by lawyers and the problems it creates have become the subject of much discussion over the past two decades. In response, the State Bar in 2007 adopted a “Civility toolbox” that “provide[s] best practices of civility in the practice of law.”
Thanks to growing interest and member leadership, the LACBA Section focused on using the rule of law to promote world peace has been reactivated. Members looking to develop relationships with international practitioners, business communities, foreign governments, and more are invited to join–or rejoin–the International Law Section.
