Los Angeles Lawyer celebrates Chernin’s longtime service to the magazine with the Lipsman Award

Norman Chernin is the recipient of the Los Angeles Lawyer magazine’s annual Lipsman Service Award. He received the award on June 23 during a board member event at Lagerhof in Pasadena.

A longtime contributor to the publication, Chernin has authored articles for more than a decade and served as Editorial Board Chair from 2021 to 2022. A real property attorney, he has also been active in LACBA’s Real Property Section as a Past Chair, Executive Committee member, and seminar speaker.

Chernin spent more than 20 years as Regional Counsel for the real estate investment division of The Prudential Insurance Company of America, now Prudential Financial, Inc. He also served as Counsel for Hilton Hotels Corporation, Special Title Counsel for the Los Angeles office of First American Title Insurance Company’s National Commercial Services Division, and Underwriting Counsel for the Fidelity family of title companies. He continues to work as a legal consultant and expert witness on title matters.

Chernin earned a B.A. in International Relations from UCLA and a J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where he was elected to the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society and placed first in the school’s Scott Moot Court competition.

The Lipsman Service Award recognizes an editorial board member or author for exemplary service to Los Angeles Lawyer. It is named for the late Samuel Lipsman, who served as the magazine’s publisher and editor from 1994 to 2013.

Pearson recognized for leadership through publication changes

The June 23 event also recognized outgoing Editorial Board Chair Cynthia Pearson, a trusts and estates attorney at Overton, Lyman & Prince, LLP, with a certificate of appreciation.

Under Pearson’s leadership, Los Angeles Lawyer completed a digital upgrade designed to expand readership while preserving the magazine’s voice and integrity. She also encouraged participation from board members and wrote a year of thoughtful “From the Chair” columns exploring the evolving legal profession. Her work over the 2025-2026 bar year also earned her the The Patricia Phillips Outstanding Committee Service Award from LACBA.
